Mo-vember to remember

My beard celebrated its fourth birthday a few months ago, so naturally when I was confronted with the offer to shave it off my response was a raised eyebrow and a curt shake of the head.

The Proposal

The proposal was not a random request by a random publican, but instead an offer from a friend (who, as it turned out, happened to be in a pub) to join him in a month long quest to grow a moustache. As tempted as it may sound, I again declined. Then he threw in the clanger: It’s for charity.

So, apparently all it took to overthrow my pledge of wearing a beard for the rest of my life was three simple words. Each of the words by themselves are useless, but when put together they conjure up a cocktail of emotion, half pride and half guilt, that is enough to make break all unwritten pledges made within your conscience.

Movember

The month of November has seemingly been hijacked by the men’s charity Movember. Movember combine the celebration of the art of the moustache, with highlighting men’s health issues, specifically prostate cancer.

This is a truly noble cause. Before reading the literature, I was unaware of the extent of prostate cancer diagnosis in the UK. It is nice to feel as though I will not only be raising money, but also awareness for the cause of what is an often overlooked illness.

Last year, 173,000 Mo Bros (as we are called) & Mo Sistas (chicks who dig the ‘tash) registered and raised around £14 million across the globe. Awesome work.

So please if you’re interested and willing to cough up any kind amount, if only in order for me justify having shaved off my pride and joy then click here.

I thought I’d offer a personal note as a quick break from the review format of the site… But don’t you fret people, normalcy will return imminently.
